چکیده

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and airborne thermography have been used for the location of buried spring barrier ponds and for the investigation of the shallow subsoil. Thermography has been selected for its ability to cover a wide area in a short time, the GPR has been chosen for the ability to distinguish, in great detail the presence of permeable layers composing the subsoil. Very positive results have been obtained by the use of the thermography in summer and wintertime to locate the “inverse” thermal anomalies determined by the presence of shallow groundwater; the subsequent GPR survey permitted us to identify a series of sand and gravel interbeddings responsible for the formation of the spring system.

Ground Penetrating Radar Fundamentals

Ground penetrating radar (commonly called GPR) is a high resolution electromagnetic technique that is designed primarily to investigate the shallow subsurface of the earth, building materials, and roads and bridges. GPR has been developed over the past thirty years for shallow, high resolution investigations of the subsurface. GPR is a time-depen dent geophysical technique that can provide a 3...

Proposing New Methods to Enhance the Low-Resolution Simulated GPR Responses in the Frequency and Wavelet Domains

To date, a number of numerical methods, including the popular Finite-Difference Time Domain (FDTD) technique, have been proposed to simulate Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) responses. Despite having a number of advantages, the finite-difference method also has pitfalls such as being very time consuming in simulating the most common case of media with high dielectric permittivity, causing the for...

Next level for snow pack monitoring in real-time using Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology

Currently available snow pack monitoring methods are limited due to spatial resolution or to adequate weather and secure avalanche conditions. Snow pack monitoring is impossible if the method is destructive as snow probing and thereby the use for avalanche forecasts limited. Ultrasonic snow height sensors are not feasible for an application in snow deposition areas along ridges or in avalanche ...
